Guide

How much does an interstate removal cost?

The honest answer is that it depends on your move. Two families moving between the same two cities can get very different prices, because the things that drive interstate removal cost are about the move itself, not the map. This guide explains what those things are, so you know what to tell us and what to expect.

You will not find a price list here. A number on a web page would not be your number. What you get from us is one price up front, before you book.

What drives the cost of an interstate removal

How much you are moving

Volume is the biggest single factor. It sets the size of the truck or container, how long loading and unloading take, and how many people we put on the job. A clear inventory, room by room, is the best way to pin it down. Sorting what you sell or give away before you ask for a quote makes the move smaller and the price lower.

Distance and route

A longer run means more time on the road. The route matters too. Some moves suit road the whole way, door to door. Long, heavy runs, such as east to west, can suit rail with the last leg by road. Where rail fits, we price road and rail side by side so you can choose.

Access at both ends

Access often makes more difference than people expect. Tell us about:

  • Stairs, and how many flights.
  • Lifts, whether they can be booked, and whether furniture fits in them.
  • Long carries from the truck to the door, such as a steep driveway or a walk through a complex.
  • Parking for the truck, and whether your council needs a permit.

The same applies at the new address, even if you have not moved in yet. Our access advice form covers all of it.

Packing

You can pack everything yourself, have us pack the fragile things, or have us pack the lot. Each option changes the time on the job and the cartons and wrapping needed. See Packing for what we do.

Storage

If the dates for your old and new homes do not line up, your things can go into secure storage in between. That adds handling and storage time to the price. See Storage.

Insurance

We are insured worldwide. Transit insurance is available on request and quoted separately, so you can decide whether you want it.

Timing and flexibility

A fixed date, a weekend or a tight window can affect the price. If you can be flexible on dates, tell us. We give you the timing with your quote.

Special items

Pianos, pool tables, safes, large artwork and other heavy or awkward items may need extra people, equipment or crating. Tell us about them when you ask for a quote, so they are in the price from the start.

How to get an accurate quote

  • A room by room inventory. List the furniture and roughly how many cartons. Our online form walks you through it.
  • Photos. A few photos of each room, the stairs and the street help us see what the move involves.
  • A survey. For a larger home, we can look over the move with you before we quote.
  • Both addresses. Include access details for the new place, even if you need to ask the agent or the owner.

Why one price up front matters

An estimate that grows on the day is the thing people dread most about moving. We quote packing, loading, transport, storage and delivery together, as one price, before you book. If something cannot be known yet, we tell you before you book, not on the invoice. The more you tell us at the start, the more certain your price is.

We run our own trucks and crews, and we stay your contact from the quote to the last carton placed in your new home. See Interstate removals for how a move between states works.

Questions

Can you give me a rough price over the phone?

We can talk it through, but we would rather give you a real price than a guess. Tell us what is moving and the access at both ends, and we send one price up front, before you book.

Is it cheaper to pack myself?

Packing yourself means less time for our crew, so it usually lowers the price. Many people pack the everyday things and leave the fragile items to us. We can price both ways.

What if I add things after I book?

Tell us as soon as you can. If the move grows, we update the price before moving day, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

Do you charge extra for stairs or a long carry?

Stairs, lifts and long carries take more time, so they are part of the price. That is why we ask about access at both ends before we quote, rather than finding out on the day.
