Moving checklist

Print this page and tick it off as you go.

Six to eight weeks before

  • Get your price on the online form or by phone, and lock in your date.
  • Decide how much packing you want done for you: everything, the fragile things, or none.
  • Sort what you are keeping, selling or giving away. Less to move means a smaller price.

Four weeks before

  • Book storage if your old and new dates do not line up.
  • Tell us about stairs, lifts, long driveways and parking at both ends.
  • Start packing the rooms you use least, and label each carton with its room.

One week before

  • Check whether you need a parking permit from your council for the truck.
  • Redirect your mail and book the power, internet and water at the new place.
  • Defrost and dry the fridge and freezer the day before.

Moving day

  • Be there, or have someone there, at both ends.
  • Keep valuables, documents, medicines and chargers with you, not on the truck.
  • Walk through every room, cupboard and the garage before the truck leaves.

Moving to Australia

  • Download the B534 and our guide from Moving to Australia. Fill in the B534 in English. Only the owner of the goods can sign it.
  • Number each box and list what is in it and what the goods are made from, such as a wooden chair or a cane basket.
  • Tick Yes in section five of the B534 for any alcohol or tobacco, and give a description, the price in AUD and the date of purchase. The ABF assesses them for duty and taxes.
  • Email the B534, identity documents worth 100 points, shipping documents and a packing list to info@impactandslick.com. Our guide lists extra papers for timber and antiques.
